Podcast Episode 1: Evolutionary Mismatch, Communal Living, and Doing Uncomfortable Things

An interview with Steven Michael Crane, Behavior Design Researcher at Stanford School of Medicine

Hi All,

Welcome to my first-ever interview podcast episode with my dear friend, Steven Crane. Steven and I were the same year at Stanford. We were both Human Biology majors, we both TA’d for Robert Sapolsky, we both lived in the co-ops (student-owned communal housing) and now, we both have little kids. So needless to say, we had a lot to talk about.

Steven is a Behavior Design Researcher at Stanford School of Medicine and shares my obsession with evolutionary mismatch as a framework for understanding human flourishing. In this episode, we talk about evolutionary mismatch, parenting, communal living, the importance of doing uncomfortable things, and much, much more.

To see more about Steven, check out his website at stevencrane.me and if you're feeling generous, chip it to his research GoFundMe to support social connection interventions for young adults.

To see one of his research reports with Sunny on social connection in the modern world (hot off the press!) go to https://scrane.link/HPSReport

I hope you enjoy the episode. If you do, please consider sharing it with someone else you think might like it (the more listens I get, the more interviews I will do!).

Best,

Elena
